MH Assessments and Counseling, LLC’s founder, Mykala Houseburg, is a dedicated licensed independent social worker with a passion for helping individuals navigate life’s challenges. She completed her BSW and the Advanced Standing Alternative (ASAP) MSW Program at The Ohio State University with an emphasis on Mental Health and Substance Misuse. She has about 3 years of field experience providing assessments, counseling services, crisis planning, and light case management services. During those 3 years, she became an expert in preforming diagnostic assessments. Mykala has conducted roughly around 800 diagnostic assessments during those 3 short years! She has assessed individuals with a variety of conditions including Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Schizophrenia, Substance Use Disorders, and more. Think of any diagnosis in the DSM-5, she has probably diagnosed it.

So, How Do We Get Started?
We aim to make the process simple, supportive, and stress-free. Here’s what you can expect when working with MH Assessments and Counseling, LLC:
1. Initial Contact
Reach out through our contact form, email, or phone to check availability. You may call us with any questions you have. We’ll help you determine which types of services fit your needs best—whether it’s a diagnostic assessment, court-ordered evaluation, counseling, or case management.
2. Scheduling Your Appointment
Once we understand what you’re looking for, we’ll find a time that works for you. Flexible scheduling, and virtual sessions available depending on your needs. We are available for appointments on weekdays from 6:30am to 5:30pm and if needed, you may request a weekend appointment.
3. Your First Session
Your first session will most likely be a diagnostic assessment which is about 45 minutes to 2 hours long. Please plan your day accordingly as this appointment may last up to 2 hours. Before this session gets down to the nitty gritty, you will have to sign some preliminary consent forms (informed consent form, confidentiality notice, ROI). After that, we’ll discuss your concerns, treatment goals, and background. We will try to get an understanding of what some of your symptoms are which means some of these questions can get real personal. Just remember, you are never expected to answer any question that makes you feel uncomfortable. At MH Assessments and Counseling, we respect your boundaries and will never push or pressure you to give us information that you are not ready to share. A recommendation based on your presenting problem and diagnosis will be made at the end of your appointment.
